Dr. Patrick Murphy is a 1981 graduate of the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. Following graduation, Dr. Murphy worked with the Gimbel Eye Center. At the same time, he started his Calgary practice and the satellite practice in Three Hills.
Dr. Murphy was the first Optometrist to receive hospital privileges as the clinic director for the Southern Alberta Sight Enhancement Clinic, a specialty clinic devoted to helping the low-visioned in conjunction with the CNIB. He provides this Low Vision specialty out of the clinic located at the Rockyview Hospital, and also for high needs patients that are seen at our Health Plus clinic.
Charity work has always been important to Dr. Murphy. He has been involved in many eye care projects in third world countries of Jamaica, Dominica, St. Lucia, and in St. Maarten. He does the Jamaica project every year in November. He also contributes his time throughout the year doing talks to various clubs to educate people about vision loss and the care provided to help visually impaired people maintain independent lives.
Dr. Murphy completed six years on the council of the Alberta Association of Optometry (AAO), holding position of President from September 2002 – 2004.
Dr. Murphy has three children, Kyle who graduated from engineering in May 2005, Braden, who is studying engineering in Halifax, and Mitchell, born in March 2007. Dr. Murphy and Dr. Osiowy were married in 2004. |

Dr. Bernadette Osiowy is a 1991 graduate from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. Following graduation, she gained valuable experience practicing in several offices in Ontario before returning west and settling in Calgary.
Dr. Osiowy started as an associate at the Three Hills satellite office in January 1993. She began working at Health Plus Optometry in the spring of 1993, gradually increasing patient care services and practice management involvement to full time by the fall. Dr. Osiowy became a partner at Health Plus and Three Hills Optometry in 1995.
Dr. Osiowy provides a specialty eye care service in the area of binocular vision therapy (for eye muscle and focus disorders). This area of vision care involves prescribing extensive series of at-home eye exercises to help strengthen eye muscle and focus problems. She has provided eye care visits for senior citizens or invalid patients at nursing homes in South Calgary and Three Hills area.
Dr. Osiowy held a two year position (1999 - 2001) on the Board of Directors of DEN (Doctor’s Eye care Network), a Canadian Optometry group that focuses on high quality patient eye care services, staff training, business management programs, and product purchase discount programs for eyeglass, contact lens and equipment.
She was a member and President of the Fish Creek Lions Club and coordinated their annual Charity Golf Tournament for the Lions Eye Bank. She also coordinated the annual charity Casino fundraiser for Canadian Vision Care (which provides services to underdeveloped countries) for five years.
Dr. Osiowy enjoys long distance cycling and running. She completed her third marathon in October 2005 in Victoria, BC.
Dr. Osiowy and Dr. Murphy were married in 2004, and had a baby boy in March 2007. |

Dr. Mark Bourdeau attended the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. After graduating in 2002, Dr. Bourdeau practiced in Vancouver before moving to Phoenix, Arizona in January 2003. In July 2003 while practicing optometry part-time in a private practice, Dr. Bourdeau began a one year hospital-based residency in Primary Eye care and Ocular Disease in Sacaton, Arizona. The Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital where Dr. Bourdeau completed his residency is part of the Indian Health Service serving the Pima Indians, who have the highest incidence and prevalence of diabetes in the world.
In July 2004, Dr. Bourdeau moved to Calgary with his wife, Dr. Samantha Bourdeau, a fellow optometrist, where he worked at Iris the Visual Group. Dr. Bourdeau was awarded Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry in December 2004 and has lectured at continuing education meetings in the U.S.
He became a member of council of the Alberta College of Optometrists in September 2004 and continues with his second two year position.
He is now a full time associate working out of the Health Plus Family Optometry and the newly acquired Sunridge Vision Centre location.
Dr. Bourdeau enjoys sports, films and volunteering for eye care missions to underdeveloped countries. The Bourdeau’s had a baby girl in January 2008. |

Dr. Andrea Saetre graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2003. She spent her first year in practice in Hamburg, Germany at EuroEyes Laser Centre where she gained valuable
experience in refractive eye surgery. She is also fluent in German and can provide eye examinations
in both English and German.
Dr. Saetre has a strong commitment to community service. She has volunteered her time in numerous community and international vision care programs. She educated elementary school children in the importance of eye care during Vision Awareness Week, and contributed to the vision care of the underprivileged on a charity mission in Merida, Mexico.
Dr. Saetre has a special interest in pediatrics, and strives to provide the best in patient care. Not only does she believe in thorough eye examinations but also in patient education. Dr. Saetre began working part time at Health Plus Optometry in September 2005, and became full time in September 2006. She also works at our Three Hills clinic, and at South Calgary Eyecare.
Dr. Saetre is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and white water canoeing. In 1998, she completed her first half Ironman triathlon. Other interests include swing dancing and traveling. |

Dr. Sarah Cooper graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2005. During the course of her education she trained at Vision America in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Cooper grew up in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan and has also attended the University of Saskatchewan.
Dr. Cooper enjoys volunteer work and community involvement. She was Secretary of the University of Waterloo Student Society and President of the University of Saskatchewan Anatomy Student Society. She has volunteered educating young school children about the importance of vision care. Dr. Cooper looks forward to participating in eyecare mission trips to third world countries.
Dr. Cooper began working at Health Plus Optometry and Three Hills part time in October 2005. She became a full time associate in September 2007. Dr. Cooper also sees patients at our Sunridge location.
Dr. Cooper enjoys running, rollerblading and jazz dancing, and generally enjoying more of the beautiful Canadian Rockies. |

Dr. Colleen Gnyp graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2001. During the course of her education she completed an ocular disease and therapeutics internship in Houston, Texas. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
Upon returning to Saskatchewan, Dr. Gnyp worked as an associate in Saskatoon and owned a private practice in Prince Albert, before relocating to Calgary in 2006. She also spends a few weeks each year working in Bermuda.
Dr. Gnyp believes in the importance of lifelong eye health exams from infant through senior years, and is committed to patient education. She works with each patient to provide eye care and product recommendations that are best for that individual. She has a special interest in refractive eye surgery and has worked at both LASIK-MD and Gimbel Eye Centre.
Dr. Gnyp manages our Sunridge locations, and helps cover occasionally at our Health Plus office.
Dr. Colleen Gnyp enjoys travel, reading and spending time with family and friends. She runs the Vancouver half-marathon each May and is enthusiastic about outdoor activities including hiking, skiing and fishing. |
